This list is a compilation of all 142 companies that have been named finalists at the TechCrunch50 event since 2007. Winners of the event have included companies such as Mint, Yammer and RedBeacon.

TechCrunch50 was supported by Sequoia Capital, Mayfield Fund, Clearstone Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures and Fenwick & West. The panel of experts has included such notables as Marissa Mayer, Tim O'Reilly, Kevin Rose, Robert Scoble, Marc Andreessen, Mark Cuban, Evan Williams and Jason Calacanis.

Y Combinator is a venture firm that specializes in funding early stage startups. They aim to help startups through what is for many the hardest step, from idea to company. Y Combinator invests mostly in software and web services, preferring groups with a lot of technical depth. Their core partners are Trevor Blackwell, Paul Graham, Jessica Livingston and Robert Morris.

This list is the composite of all startups that Y Combinator has stated they've funded.

Even bigger than the great success of the previous 2 TechCrunch events, TechCrunch50 in 2009 was hosted by TechCrunch and Jason Calacanis with the support of several generous sponsors. It took place September 14th-15th, 2009 at the San Francisco Design Center Concourse.

Forty-six of 2009's hottest new startups from around the world announced and demoed their products over a two day period at TechCrunch50. Many great companies were introduced, such as CitySourced, AnyClip, and Threadsy. In the end, Redbeacon took home the $50,000 prize.

These include more companies headquartered outside the U.S. than in the past, such as Volkswagen, Infosys, and Telefónica.

Fifty-two of 2008's hottest new startups from around the world announced and demoed their products over a two day period at TechCrunch50. Many great companies were introduced, such as DropBox, Swype, and Mobclix. In the end, Yammer took home the $50,000 prize.

The World's 50 Most Innovative Companies - Published June 18, 2007

The BusinessWeek-Boston Consulting Group 2007 list of the World's Most Innovative Companies is based on a senior management survey about innovation and was distributed electronically to executives worldwide in late 2006. In October, surveys were sent to the 1,500 largest global corporations, determined by market capitalization in U.S. dollars, with instructions to send the survey to their top 10 executives in charge of innovation. We also distributed the survey to senior management members of the BusinessWeek Market Advisory Board, an online panel consisting of BusinessWeek readers, and via the Knowledge@Wharton e-mail newsletter. Survey participation was voluntary and anonymous, and the survey closed in March, 2007. The survey consisted of 20 general questions on innovation and an optional 12 questions focused on innovation metrics.
